Who we are

Welcome! We are a community organisation who want to increase children's safe access to informal outdoor play in their neighbourhoods.

Having been inspired by the Playing Out project which started in Bristol we have formed a local Adur and Worthing group and have worked with the councils and Playing Out CIC to set up a Play Street scheme for Adur and Worthing.

Following a succesful pilot in 2013, residents can now apply for up to 12 playing out sessions in a year for the purposes of children's play on their street.

What is Playing Out?

Playing Out sessions are temporary road closures to let children play safely and freely in their street.

Neighbours discuss the idea first and then apply to the council under their Play Street scheme to close their road for free to through traffic (residents still have access in and out, guided by neighbrous volunteering as stewards).

A playing out session can be held after school or on a weekend and is a maximum of three hours before dusk.
